How many laser hair removal sessions do you really need?

Laser hair removal works by sending light into the hair follicle, where the pigment absorbs it and the heat damages the follicle. That only works while the hair is in its active growth phase — and at any moment, only a portion of the hair in an area is in that phase.

That is the whole reason a course of treatments exists. Each session catches a different set of follicles, which is why we space appointments four to six weeks apart and plan for six to eight visits on most areas.

What changes your number

Darker, coarser hair responds fastest. Fine or light hair takes longer and may need maintenance more often. Hormonal areas, like the chin and jawline, are the most likely to need occasional touch-ups after the initial course.

What to do between sessions

Shave as normal — shaving does not affect the follicle. Do not wax, thread or pluck, because those remove the target the laser needs. Keep treated skin out of the sun and use SPF 30 or higher.

At your consultation we will look at your hair and skin and give you a realistic session count before you book anything.
